IMPORTANT NOTE: I have taken myself off this bill at the Sinclair with Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, due to the Sinclair’s decision — despite protests from their entire staff — to book and host a fundraising concert for Israel which took place last Tuesday. Rong, the other opener, has also stepped off the bill. I can’t get the words of the young US service man — who set himself on fire in protest outside the Israeli embassy in DC — out of my head: “Many of us like to ask ourselves, ‘What would I do if I was alive during slavery? Or the Jim Crow South? Or apartheid? What would I do if my country was committing genocide?’ The answer is, you’re doing it. Right now.” I am listening to and standing in solidarity with the many brave Jewish voices who say “never again — to anyone.” I’ll be taking some time to think about how to move forward with making and performing music during this horrific moment in history. |
